There are many requirements you need to know before you can take part in an AIMAA grading including patterns, 1-steps, fighting techniques, traditional etc. We will explain below what each of these elements entails.
|
Patterns (Hyung):
A pattern is a series of traditional strikes and blocks performed in a set order. The name, number of movements and the diagrammatic symbol of each pattern symbolize either a historical even, a heroic figure in Korean history or instances relating to historical events. We perform patterns to emulate these great people and respect their achievements. |
One-steps:
These are a series of techniques to combat a right/left handed punch. There are currently 55 1-steps as part of the AIMAA curriculum. Click here for dedicated one steps page.
Fighting techniques:
These do exactly what they say on the tin!!! Students will learn proper technique to develop both boxing and kicking skills.
Traditional techniques:
Tae Kwon Do originated in Korea and was based around traditional techniques. Throughout the centuries, martial artists have continued to practice and perfect these movements which are in essence the basis of Tae Kwon Do.
